Martin Black Horsemanship and Stockmanship Clinic 2022

Red Rock Ranch is proud to host the upcoming 5 day, Martin Black Horsemanship and Stockmanship Clinic at our Jackson Hole, Wyoming guest ranch. The clinic is scheduled for August 22nd to the 26th, 2022 and only a few more spaces are left open!

Having trouble loading your horse in the trailer? Does your horse walk off when you go to get on? What about that “old” cow that keeps breaking from the herd each time they’re almost in the pen? Attending a Martin Black clinic is a great way to improve your horse riding and stockmanship skills, no matter your level of experience.

Martin grew up working on his family’s ranch and began starting colts at age 12. After high school, he left home to work with top horseman at ranches in Idaho, Nevada, and California. By the age of 24, he was managing some 400 horses and 15,000 head of cattle on a 1.25 million acre ranch in Nevada.

Then, after more than 30 years of ranching, Martin switched his focus from cattle ranching to working with horses. His reputation and expertise soon found him traveling coast to coast in the US, as well as to such far-flung places as Europe, Australia, and Brazil.

Since beginning his clinics, Martin has worked with a number of Hall of Famers and All Time Leading Trainers of cutting, reining, and race horses. He has also started many horses who’ve gone on to be champions. Celebrated racehorses like Pleasantly Perfect and champion working horses like Smart Little Scoot. Martin has also competed in a variety of events, earning many awards and over $75,000 in Stock Horse and NRCHA events.

Testimonials

Don’t just take our word for it. Attendees of Martin Black Horsemanship and Stockmanship clinics are eager to spread the word and often find themselves returning for more. Below are just a few samples – we could easily have collected enough to fill the whole page!

“A word that I use to describe a Martin Black clinic is ‘transformational.’ His patient gift of ferreting out what an array of riders’ personalities seek and what their skill levels require is singular in approach. He creates a solid foundation upon which you want to come back to build the next level, set the next goal.”
Martha Gose

“Martin is acutely aware of the horse’s learning process and he always knows a good place to stop and ‘settle for that!’ The horses here in my barn are happier, more relaxed, and more fun to ride since we have been practicing horsemanship skills with Martin Black.”
J&J from PA

“I learn something each and every time. A lot of ‘somethings!’ Watching Martin start or coach people with their colts is worth a million dollars … understanding why a horse does what he does … and how to use this perspective to the betterment of both horse and human … is mind-blowing. Blessed to have met this horseman!”
Deitra Robertson

“I recently participated in a 5 day combo: colt starting, cow work, and horsemanship with Martin. Paid $1,500 and it was worth every penny. Martin’s knowledge and understanding spans to the farthest reaches of both horse and cow behavior. If you want to go home with both valuable and readily useful knowledge, come to the Red Rock’s clinic with Martin at the helm.”

Martin Black Horsemanship at Red Rock Ranch

This is the 6th year that we’ve hosted a Martin Black Horsemanship Clinic at Red Rock Ranch and we’re excited to have him back. Martin Black’s clinics are like no other, offering a unique and insightful approach to the horse and rider relationship.

Martin helped to pioneer Evidence-Based Horsemanship with neuroscientist, Dr. Stephen Peters. Evidence-Based Horsemanship brings modern science to the world of horse training to help inform and create “best practices” in all areas of training and care. This truly remarkable approach helps to bridge the gulf between man and beast. You’ll learn how we differ in thought and action from the horse and how we can work best together.

Martin Black clinics are relevant for all riders, no matter your discipline or experience. Attendees need not stay at Red Rock Ranch to attend but cabins are available. Bring your own horse for the clinic or ride one of the ranch horses.

The Martin Black Horsemanship and Stockmanship Clinic at Red Rock Ranch is scheduled for Aug 22-26, 2022. A few spaces are still open but they won’t last for long! Contact Red Rock Ranch to reserve your spot and for more info.
