Crystal Creek
David and Deborah MacKenzie so enjoyed visiting a Jackson Hole Valley dude ranch with their family in the early 1970’s that they dreamed of running their own. They found just the unique exclusiveness they were looking for at Red Rock Ranch, east of Jackson Hole, WY. The fact that more than 2.5 miles of beautiful Crystal Creek wound through the property was just the icing on the cake.
At the time that the MacKenzie’s bought the ranch, the section of stream on the property was in rough shape. Hydrologists, engineers, and professional excavators were brought in to implement a comprehensive restoration project.
The restored stream now features the deep dark pools and ample churning water that native Cutthroat Trout thrive in. It is a world class, prime, dry fly-fishing watershed and part of David’s lasting legacy here at Red Rock Ranch.
Fly-Fishing at Red Rock Ranch
Red Rock Ranch offers a variety of fishing experiences, from weekly Fly-fishing Clinics for beginners, to expert guided fishing trips. Red Rock Ranch’s in-house fishing guide has years of experience and is well versed in the nuances of Crystal Creek.
Ranch ponds have been stocked with trout for those looking to test their skills. Fly-fishing on the Crystal is catch and release only, using barbless hooks. These and other sustainable practices allow us to continue to provide pristine fishable waters to our guests.
Wyoming fishing licenses are required on Crystal Creek, and may be purchased online. The Red Rock Ranch store offers a good supply of local flies, leaders, and tippet. Loaner rods are available for use throughout your stay. Be sure to book your fly fishing guide in advance. The guide service rate is an addition to your final bill.
Other fishing options in the area include the Gros Ventre River, Jackson Hole, and the Snake River. All are within reasonable distance from the Red Rock Ranch by vehicle.
